Nacogdoches, TX - March 6-8, 2015, 11 cadets and senior members from SWR-TX-179, Thunderbird Composite Squadron, joined 100 others at Texas Wing Headquarters. All were eager to participate in the Cadet Training and Education Program (CTEP). CTEP is a weekend leadership training course that breaks members down by rank to be taught in-depth leadership skills.

The cadets from Thunderbird were a part of Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy (SNCOA), Officer Training School (OTS), and Cadet Command Staff College (CCSC). Officer Training School (OTS) and Cadet Command Staff College (CCSC), are part one and two of Region Cadet Leadership School (RCLS). This is a prerequisite for the Eaker Award. The senior members participated in Training Leaders of Cadets (TLC). In addition to the members attending class, several were on staff to help teach and to prepare meals throughout the weekend.

The training weekend consisted of cadets attending class where they learned about a specific topic and were assigned homework, such as a presentation, speech or paper. Through these activities cadets were able to learn, and then teach other cadets their perspective and thoughts. These activities were often group activities. This taught everyone how to work together effectively.

Everyone had a very educational experience, learning about basic drill, the roles of staff, how to plan CAP activities, the proper wearing of the uniform, how to effectively communicate, and how to teach others. For many it was a very motivating. They got to meet others from around the wing.

All the cadets and seniors enjoyed their time at CTEP. Since coming back everyone has seen the benefits, have been able to put their new leadership skills into practice and are looking forward to going back in the fall.
